Ingredients
Scale
Here’s everything you’ll need for this easy, flavorful dish:
- 1 lb shrimp (peeled and deveined): Tender and juicy, shrimp cook quickly and absorb the honey garlic sauce beautifully.
- 2 sausages (I like to use chicken sausage, but any type will work): Savory and slightly spicy, sausage adds a rich depth of flavor.
- 1 bunch broccoli (cut into florets): Crispy and caramelized when roasted, broccoli adds a fresh crunch to balance the rich, savory elements.
- 3 cloves garlic (minced): For that unmistakable savory bite that makes everything taste amazing.
- 1/4 cup honey: The perfect sweet counterpoint to the garlic and soy sauce in the sauce.
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce: Adds umami and a touch of salt to balance the sweetness of the honey.
- 1 tablespoon olive oil: For sautéing the garlic and cooking the sausage.
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional): Adds just a touch of heat to balance the sweetness.
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika: For a mild smokiness that enhances the flavor.
- Salt and pepper (to taste): For seasoning the shrimp, sausage, and broccoli.
Instructions
1. Prep the Ingredients:
- Start by peeling and deveining the shrimp (if not already done). Place them in a bowl and set aside.
- Slice the sausage into 1/2-inch rounds. If you’re using larger sausages, feel free to cut them into smaller pieces. Set them aside as well.
- Cut the broccoli into florets. Don’t forget to trim the tough stems, as they can be a bit too fibrous for roasting.
2. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, red pepper flakes, paprika, and a pinch of salt and pepper. This sauce is the magic that ties everything together, so make sure to taste it and adjust the seasoning if needed—more honey if you like it sweeter, or more soy sauce for a saltier kick.
3. Cook the Sausage:
- Heat a large skillet or a baking sheet with sides over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced sausage and sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until browned and crispy. Use tongs to flip them as needed to ensure even cooking. Once done, remove them from the pan and set aside.
4. Sauté the Shrimp:
- In the same pan, add a bit more olive oil if necessary and sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
- Add the shrimp to the pan and sauté them for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook them—shrimp cooks quickly and can become rubbery if left too long in the pan. Once cooked, remove the shrimp and set them aside with the sausage.
5. Roast the Broccoli:
- On the same pan (no need to clean it), toss the broccoli florets with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper. Make sure they’re evenly coated.
- Spread the broccoli out in a single layer, making sure there’s enough space for them to crisp up as they cook. Roast in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes, or until they’re slightly crispy on the edges and tender in the middle.
6. Combine Everything:
- Once the broccoli is roasted, remove the pan from the oven and return the sausage and shrimp to the pan.
- Pour the honey garlic sauce over everything and toss it gently to coat the sausage, shrimp, and broccoli in that sticky, flavorful glaze. You want everything to get a nice coat of sauce, so take your time here. You can even return the pan to the stovetop for a minute to heat everything through.
7. Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve your Honey Garlic Shrimp, Sausage & Broccoli immediately, either on its own or with a side of rice, quinoa, or mashed potatoes. The flavors are bold and savory, with a touch of sweetness from the honey, making it the perfect weeknight dinner that feels fancy but is surprisingly easy.
